An interpreter is not only a linguist; he/she may also play an important catalytic role in the relationship between a company and a potential client. Accordingly, at Eloquence we work with interpreters who have proven professional skills but also outstanding “people skills” and an ability to quickly adapt to different meeting situations.

At Eloquence we offer the following interpreting services:

  • “Ad-hoc” interpreting
This is the process whereby an interpreter translates a few sentences at a time, alternating with the person who is talking. The interpreter acts as an intermediary between the speaker and listener(s). This technique is widely used in business negotiations and factory tours.
  • Chuchotage
This is a simultaneous translation “whispered” by the interpreter to the listener(s). Chuchotage technique (from the French chuchoter; to whisper) is ideal when only one or two participants in a workgroup require the service of an interpreter. Chuchotage does not disrupt a meeting's natural flow of discussion.

HOW WE WORK
Our interpreting services, just as our written translation services, are carried out by the linguist who best fits a meeting's specifications.

We ask our clients to provide us in advance with an agenda of their meeting, copies of any documents that may be a matter of discussion in the course of the same, as well as any other background information that can help us ensure the meeting is successful. If you need an interpreter to serve any purpose beyond straight language translation, e.g. with negotiation skills or particular industry sector knowledge, do let us know.
